Divorce Decisions
One of the most fearful aspects of divorce is all the decisions that have to be made that will affect the rest of your life. Just reading that sentence is terrifying. Decisions that will affect the rest of your life. Who wants to make those kinds of decisions? Not me.
Well, maybe me. Everyday we are living our lives forward. Every day we make small decisions that have an impact on our lives from what time we wake up in the morning, to what we will eat, to whether we exercise or get to work on time. Every decision has an impact.
Some decisions are easier to make than others. Should I hit the snooze button seems less impactful than should I tell my spouse I want a divorce. That’s obvious. But not making a decision is in itself making a decision.
I’m sharing this because in divorce, you often feel alone in making decisions. It doesn’t have to be that way. You may rely on your family or close friends to help you make decisions, but they have a stake in your conflict and may not be able to give unbiased support. You may rely on your attorney, but they often give you options. Their job is not to tell you what to do. They leave it to you to make the final call.
