You’ve been married for over 20 years. Where do you even start?

Through thoughtful guidance, strategic curiosity, and a deep commitment to your values, we’ll navigate one of life's hardest transitions together — with greater confidence, clarity, and hope for the future.

I didn’t plan to get divorced. None of us do. But when it happened after 21 years of marriage, it rocked my world. Life would never be the same again. Slowly I learned how to move forward. I made mistakes, did better, made more mistakes, and succeeded in new things. I became a better version of myself. That’s the version that I bring to my work as a divorce coach every day.

I’m Lisa Lisser, founder of LZL Coaching. Like many of you, my life story has many chapters.

I practiced litigation in NYC, “retired” briefly to raise my now-grown children, then went on to become a leader, public speaker, and advocate in the non-profit communal space. I participated in the Wexner Heritage Leadership Development Program, cultivated my own personal leadership curriculum, earned a masters in Jewish education and became a certified spiritual counselor.

My work as a CDC-certified divorce coach has been the perfect opportunity to blend my passions, my talents, and my life experiences in a way that nothing had before. With empathy and compassion, I listen fully and help my clients reduce their overwhelm. I have the honor of becoming their trusted sounding board, giving them the confidence they need to move through their divorce process and helping them launch into the next stage of their lives with clarity and courage.

Together, we'll slow down when fear tells you to speed up, cultivate strategic curiosity, and create the clarity you need to make decisions that reflect your values and support the life you're building next.

Divorce is one chapter of your story. It doesn't have to define the chapters that follow.

My Approach to Coaching

Divorce creates urgency, uncertainty, and fear. My role is to create the space where clarity can emerge. Drawing on timeless wisdom, neuroscience, and values-based coaching, I help clients move from fear-based reactions to clarity-informed decisions. Together, we build the confidence to navigate not only divorce, but life's next chapter.

My values-based approach is the practice of slowing down, asking thoughtful questions, and making clarity-informed decisions that reflect your deepest values rather than your strongest fears.

Why You Need a Divorce Coach By Your Side

One of the most critical aspects of my coaching practice is that I create a safe space for my clients to ask questions. Even more important than the questions I answer, are the questions I ask, which open up new possibilities that my clients may never have imagined.

Unlike other people in my clients’ lives, my only stake in the process is to build their ability to find clarity, confidence and courage. My clients develop the power to articulate their wants and needs so they get what they want from their lawyers, financial advisors, soon to be ex-spouse and everyone else who is involved in their divorce process.

My Experience & Credentials

I began my career as a big firm attorney. I moved into communal leadership in philanthropy, which led to my masters in Jewish education and a certificate in spiritual counseling. Upon becoming certified as a divorce and divorce transition coach, I continued to add certifications including high conflict co-parenting and the transformative child-centered BeH2O® co-parenting process. I deepened my divorce coaching practice with additional training in family mediation and parent coordination through the NJ Bar Association.

Our Beliefs

Everyone involved in your divorce deserves care and respect.

You are not a case to me. You are a person. My work is grounded in strategic empathy and compassion. Your children are people, and their experience matters to me. Your soon to be ex is also a person. Our work centers around assessing everyone’s feelings and needs, without sacrificing yours.

Deconstructing leads to an untapped opportunity to rebuild.

When a marriage ends, there is always loss and grief. What you may not see now are the opportunities for growth and renewal. My values-based approach will help you break things down and give you space to pause, so you can lay a strong foundation for your next chapter.

Divorce is easier when you lead with your values.

Divorce is already hard enough. Our work always starts with identifying your soul-centered values. These values become the framework for all your decisions giving you confidence and clarity to decide how you want to show up throughout your divorce process.

FAQs

What is Divorce Coaching?

1

Divorce coaching is the key to a thoughtful divorce process. Working with a divorce coach, you build the muscles to ask courageous questions and consider creative solutions. You learn how to identify what you know and what you need to know.  You articulate your values so you find your own “strong ground” (to quote Brené Brown). And, you gain knowledge so you can respond instead of react. Ultimately, with your divorce coach, you build a plan that is specific to you and your family. This way, you become the driver of your divorce process.

What qualifies someone to be a divorce coach?

2

Divorce coaches come from many different professional backgrounds. They may have legal, therapeutic or financial backgrounds. They may work in religious communities, and many have personal experience with divorce. It is a lifetime of experience that creates the qualities that make a great divorce coach.

For the last fifteen years, the CDC College of Divorce Coaching has led the field in divorce coach certification. Additionally, the Divorce Coaches Academy certifies coaches in Alternate Dispute Resolution coaching techniques. Certified divorce coaches specifically focus on divorce related issues as well as the International Coaching Federation’s coaching methods.

I have been certified by each of these organizations. Additionally, I have supplemented my skill set in co-parent coaching through the Beh2OⓇ Child- Centered Co-Parenting Process. Prior to these certifications, I was certified as a Spiritual Counselor through the Elaine Breslow Center.

How Can a Divorce Coach Help Me?

Let’s get granular. Working with a divorce coach gives you the space to learn. Knowledge reduces fear, and less fear means more clarity.

The bottom line is that a divorce coach helps reduce the pain of divorce, shortens the length of the divorce process, and saves you time and money by identifying exactly what professional support you need and where to find it.
